Answers

1. When I ask the questions I don't hear any reply! What's wrong?
There are several great articles on hearing God in the app that might help, including one just for people who are stuck. On the main menu, choose "How-to (articles)" and you'll see it. Some common reasons people struggle with hearing:

2. How do I navigate through the meditations?
There are several ways to do so. You can choose "meditations" from the menu and go through the list of meditations by passage. Or, click the "By Desire" button at the top of the meditation list and you can scroll through the meditations by desire. Or, at the bottom of each meditation are green "Last" and "Next" buttons that let you click over to the previous meditation or the next one.

3. What are the little check marks next to the questions for?
When a questions is checked (see photo at right) that means you have made a journal entry for that question. It helps you keep track of which questions you've prayed and which you haven't.

4. Why does the timer only give you 60 seconds to pray?
We learned that most people actually hear better with in a short time -- 30 seconds to a minute seems to work best. God usually answers right away, and the first flash of insight is usually the best. When we pray longer we seem to veer off into our heads more and get confused.

5. Can I change the timer length?
Yes, under "Settings" in the main menu you can adjust it to 30, 60 or 90 seconds.

6. How can I dictate my journal entries instead of having to type them all in?
To the left of the spacebar on the iPhone keyboard is a microphone icon. Click on that, and you are in dictation mode.

7. Can I pray and journal on a question for Jesus more than once?
Sure! The journal will preserve what you've already typed in, and let you add more to the end of the journal entry at any time.

8. How can I see or edit my previous journal entries?
When you are on the journal screen, you can go forward or backward through your entries with the "previous" and "next" buttons at the bottom of the screen. A more powerful method is to choose "Journals" from the main menu. The app will display a list of the meditations, with your journal entries below, letting you jump to any entry. The questions you haven't journalled on are greyed out, while the ones with journal entries are highlighted. With both methods, your journal entries are "live", meaning you can edit them at any time.

9. Can I share my journal with others?
That's a big part of the fun! When you make a journal entry, you'll see a "share" button in the lower right corner of your screen. Click that and you'll see several ways you can share a single entry (text, e-mail, etc.). If you want to make it easier to share regularly with the same person, or you have some friends with the app who want to pray and share together, just set up team sync (see the question directly below).

10. How do I sync my phone with a group so we can all pray the same question each day?
Once everyone has installed the app, have each person follow these steps:

  1. From the main menu, choose "Settings" and turn on "Course Sync". Then choose a start date from the calendar and a starting meditation number.
  2. Under "Team Sync" (right below "Course Sync" under "Settings"), enter the mobile phone numbers of up to four teammates. Hit the "plus" button after you enter each number to add it to your list of teammates.
  3. Go back to the main Menu and choose "Apply Course Sync". Your phone will automatically go to the meditation number you've chosen, and the starting date will be displayed to let you know you are in sync mode.

The app provides 5 questions a week, so you can take the weekends off. Each time a new week begins, the app will advance to the next meditation.

11. I hit the "Apply Course Sync" button and nothing seems to happen.
You have to enter the names of those you want to sync with first, under "Settings".

12. How do I share my journal with a group of teammates?
Once you've entered your teammates names, a "team share" option will appear on the journal entry page when you click on "share". Choose that option and what you share will go out to your teammates. You do have to choose "share" every time you want an entry to go out--that gives you the opportunity to choose what you share. We didn't think you want to have the app automatically share everything from your personal journal!

13. Can I only share part of a journal entry? What I wrote was kinda personal.
Yes! Hit share, and you'll see the text of the message that will be sent. You can edit it or choose only part of it to share before you send it.

14. I finished all the meditations. Now what?
One way to get more is to buy the Questions for Jesus book--it includes 52 meditations, enough for a whole year (the first 26 meditations from the book are in the app). We are planning to offer more meditations as in-app purchases in future versions. We have many more great resources on Questions for Jesus--card sets, facilitator's guides, workshops outlines, a training DVD and more. See the "Resources" page in the main menu of your app, or visit our bookstore page on-line.
